South-West police start a-Tweetin’
One of the great advantages of Twitter is its immediacy.
Unfortunately, it’s getting annoying to see so many television shows using inane comments posted on Twitter to try to spice up their nightly content. I mean, who really cares if “glenda” has just noticed she’s wearing the same colour nail polish as Seal, from The Voice?
Here’s hoping Western Australian police don’t go to a different extreme by scaring the wits out of everyone with bad news as they undertake a three-month trial using social media to tackle crime in the community. Police stations in the Perth metropolitan area, as well as in Busselton and Australind, are about to start Tweeting messages on road safety, crime prevention and appeals to help solve crimes. Facebook could be used next.
It would be interesting to know how they plan to measure the success of this new trial.
